On May 8, we, the people of North Carolina, will decide whether or not to protect the institution of marriage from activist judges by amending our state constitution. So with just two short months to go before the vote, I would like to make an appeal to those who believe in the Word of God and are followers of Christ.
We know by God’s Word, His creation, and His Son that marriage is between one man and one woman (Gen. 2:18-24, Matt. 19:4-6). In addition, we know this holy institution was established not only for the well being of the family but, when carried out biblically, as the very picture of Christ and His church (Eph. 5:22-32). Therefore, when we stand for marriage, we are standing for the gospel.
So, do not be deceived by red-herring arguments or personal interest stories. Living with whom you choose is a right, but receiving the government’s endorsement of a lifestyle is not. State laws pertaining to private contracts and domestic violence will not be undone. And yes, the amendment will prohibit civil unions, as it should. Lest we protect the word “marriage” without protecting its definition and miss the whole point.
And so I’m asking you to take a stand by doing the following: 1) ask your pastor to commit to preaching on marriage the Sunday before the vote (May 6), 2) hold a Q&A at your church between now and the vote, 3) encourage everyone you know to sign-up at www.voteformarriage nc.com to get the latest news and updates, and 4) vote for the amendment on May 8.
Our legislators have done their part. Now it’s time to do ours.
With all sincerity,
Jason Phibbs, VoteForMarriageNC

This letter is for staff writer Ian Faulkner. You do not seem to think the threat from North Korea is serious. Read your history of war. I’m glad that our country takes it serious.

Budget tips
The government has a problem with the budget. Why? The Republicans and the Democrats blame one another. Why? Don’t they both spend the money? Foolishly.
