“1 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives… ” -1 Timothy 2: 1-2.
In November, we will conclude the process of electing a president of the United States. It is a process which I do not completely understand.
In spite of that, I still approach November with confidence in the framers of the Constitution. Though the process may be complex and flawed, it is our process. No part of it was forced upon us by others.
During my life, the presidential process has produced 11 leaders, so far all men. They have represented different races and different religions. Though we held great hopes for them, they were all both saints and sinners.
We elect flawed people because there aren’t any other kind. We are still bound by civic duty to vote to the best of our ability. We are also bound by the word of God on the morning after the election to pray for the president of the United States whether he or she is the person that we voted for or not.
We are directed by scripture to honor the office even if we have reservations about the person who occupies it.
As Christians we are encouraged in like measure to pray no less for our enemies than for our friends. God commands us to do this because no man or woman should be asked by us to carry the weight of a nation and potentially the fate of the world alone.
We are asked to be merciful, so that someday when we stand before God, He too will show mercy to us.

Budget tips
The government has a problem with the budget. Why? The Republicans and the Democrats blame one another. Why? Don’t they both spend the money? Foolishly.
