Thursday, February 5, 2009 — A reply to a letter written by Lindsey Dunevant on Jan. 27, 2009.
You state that you are a citizen seeking the best interests of the region.
You sound like the former governor of Illinois — he had a golden thing to sell. You are telling us that the state of North Carolina should buy the Yadkin Project from Alcoa. The price would be just under $25 million.
I want to know: Do you speak as an individual or do you speak for the board of cmmissioners?
You were elected to serve the people of Stanly County. We do not want “socialism.” Because of your position, you are given a prime spot in the newspaper with your picture.
Do you campaign to be a power generating czar or the head of the committee? If the state takes over from Alcoa, there will be a lot of jobs. Every time you have one man working, you will have two men watching him. Electricity would cost us more, not less.
A socialist state does not promote competition. I wish the state would take your real estate and pay you 10 percent of the market value. That would make you smile. I am glad that you do not have a lifetime job as a commissioner.
Maybe you will face some stiff competition next election. Oh, you may be a state water commissioner by then.
I am a citizen who believes in capitalism.
