We’ve got one of the prettiest states in the Union. I’m almost sure you will agree. I have to admit, I’m a little bit prejudiced, having lived in Albemarle almost all my 67 years of life. I credit the very strict littering laws passed in our state government and the enforcement of them by our State Highway Patrol.
However, like everything else things are changing. Due to a lot of things which, a private citizen has no or little control. May I point out a few things that might be going on. One: failure of enforcement of the littering law, two: taking down the littering signs beside the roads and highways, third: paying no attention to lawbreakers who break the law.
Again, what happened to the punishment of turkey farmers who hauled their turkeys down the road without a net or some device to confine the feathers to their crates. Or whatever happened to the punishment of farmers who hauled feed without a tarp to hold the feed in their respective barrels. Or what ever happened to the punishment to farmers who hauled the manure to their fields without a container that was equipped to hold the manure in their respective equipment. I think out of all these examples listed above the answer is farmers got the nets for their turkey crates, got tarps to cover their barrels and got moisture proof equipment to spread their fields, all but one that I know: The gentleman, who runs his turkey trucks up and down Efird Road, Saint Martin Road, and N.C. 24/27 and where-all else to spoil the scenery. You good people might think I’m picking on the turkey man that lives somewhere around Endy. You might be right, but I suspect there’s many more. Endy Turkey man, get a net.
