Thursday, July 9, 2009 — We need your help to get Stanly County’s first ever emergency housing facility up and running.
As some of you may have heard, The Community Inn will soon be opening its doors to local homeless individuals or families in need of a place to sleep, providing a safe haven for them and information about other resources.
It will be located at 510 South First Street, Albemarle, adjacent to The Community Table soup kitchen. It will be managed by Homes of Hope, Inc., in cooperation with Stanly Community Christian Ministries, Mental Health Association, Stanly Baptist Association and with the support of many other community groups and businesses.
Homelessness does exist in Stanly County for last year alone, Homes of Hope housed 19 individuals (nine adults and 10 children) in its 6-month transitional housing program, and received an additional 38 applications from other homeless families. Many are homeless due to lack of transportation, childcare and difficulty obtaining local employment, as well as emergency situations.
What can you do to help? The answer is simple: Eat more chicken.
We will have our first fundraiser on Friday, July 31 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 202 N. Second St. in downtown Albemarle.
Barbecue chicken plates are available for $7 donation per plate and plates can be delivered within Stanly County with a five-plate minimum order.
Call Homes of Hope at (704) 982-3634, or e-mail me at taylorsb@carolina.rr.com for tickets and information.
Tell your co-workers, friends and family and join us for a great meal to benefit our neighbors in need. We appreciate your interest and participation very much.
