Argand Energy of Charlotte is close to completing work on the installation of North Carolina’s largest residential, solar and wind energy system at Lucky Clays Farm in rural Stanly County. The system will offset approximately 22 tons of CO2 annually and was officially dedicated at a ceremony Wednesday.
Owner Judith Carpenter believes that clean energy generated from the sun and wind makes sense for both the environment and for the bottom line. The 30 kilowatt, ground mounted solar array with 130 panels, turning Carolina sunshine into electricity, will produce enough energy to power four average American homes for a year. The system also includes battery back-up to provide power during utility outages.
Argand Energy of Charlotte designed and installed both the solar system and the sleek, 5 kilowatt wind turbine mounted atop a 60 foot tower.
Erik Lensch, president of Argand Energy Solutions said: “We are excited to see this unique project come to life. Ms. Carpenter is a thoughtful client who understands the value of solar and wind energy. Like more and more people and businesses today, she has chosen to make her own power by installing this great renewable energy system here at Lucky Clays.”
Another North Carolina company, Daetwyler Clean Energy, also played a role by providing the aluminum support racking for the solar energy system.
Ivan Urlaub, executive director of the North Carolina Sustainable Association, said: “Projects like Lucky Clays Farm are further proof that more and more jobs are being created in communities across North Carolina by the renewable energy industry. Solar and wind energy are great for making power and also for creating jobs and economic investments in all regions of our state.”
