Pfeiffer invites community to Christmas concert

Thursday, December 1, 2011 — The Pfeiffer University Department of Music and Fine Arts will present its annual Christmas Concert on Dec. 4 at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in Henry Pfeiffer Chapel on the University’s Misenheimer Campus (48340 U.S. 52 N.). The concerts are free and open to the public.

Featured will be the Pfeiffer University concert and handbell choirs and wind ensemble. As is custom, the audience will participate in singing familiar carols.

“We’re thrilled to invite the public and entire Pfeiffer community to participate in a time-honored Pfeiffer University tradition, presented in a fresh, new way,” said Dr. David Kirby associate professor of music and chair of Pfeiffer’s department of Music.

Performance selections include:

Concert choir: Deck the Halls (in 7/8!); Lo, How A Rose E’er Blooming, arranged by Hugo Distler; and Lux Arumque, by American composer Eric Whitacre. They will also perform a new setting of Christina Rossetti’s Love Was Born at Christmas, featuring several student soloists, arranged by Dr. David Kirby.

Handbell Choir: Familiar carols and songs, including The First Nowell, in a setting by Sandra Eithun; White Christmas, arranged by Cynthia Dobrinski; and Angels from the Realms of Glory, arranged by Hart Morris.

Wind ensemble:  An arrangement of Carol of the Bells and other selections.
