Danielle Blake, a 2012 graduate of North Stanly High School, is presented with the first Keep Stanly Beautiful (KSB) Scholarship, by Ron Crawley, KSB president.
The scholarship was made available to students in all Stanly County high schools who are pursuing a career in environmentalism, environmental studies and research, conservation, conservation studies and research, forestry, environmental education, landscape architecture or other related fields of study.
Blake, who has been accepted at N.C. State University, plans to become a teacher and is majoring in agriculture education.
During her high school career, she served as FFA regional president and school chapter president, as well as club secretary for 4-H. She was a member of the National Honor Society, the National Technical Honor Society, a cheerleader and was also varsity basketball captain.
“We are pleased to award this scholarship to someone of Danielle’s caliber,” said Crawley said.
“Since this was our first scholarship program, we had no idea what kind of response to expect, but all the applicants were deserving, so determining a winner was difficult. We look forward to following Danielle’s college career and are confident that she will excel in reaching her goals.”
Keep Stanly Beautiful, Inc, established in 1989, is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to promote public interest in the general improvement of the environment of Stanly County and its townships.
KSB believes that empowering the citizenry of Stanly County to take greater responsibility for enhancing their environment will result in community pride and will help make this a better place to work and live.
