Five Gray Stone Day School seniors in the class of 2012 will continue their education in familiar surroundings as they enroll at Pfeiffer University this month, all with scholarships which were presented by Melissa Coe at Gray Stone’s recent awards ceremony.
Chase Clontz and Janna Featherstone will attend on Full Tuition Honor Scholarships, worth $90,000 over four years. In addition, Featherstone has earned a Women’s Cross Country Scholarship and the Village of Misenheimer Scholarship.
Clontz is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Clontz of Mt. Pleasant. He attended basketball camps at Pfeiffer University and at Covenant College, and is active in his church. He played basketball all four years, earning MVP, coach’s award, all-conference, all-tournament, and an ACSI award for outstanding achievement in athletics. He also ran track and played golf. Clontz volunteered with Harrisburg Fire and Rescue for his service project, and with church fundraisers, car washes, yard sales, vacation Bible school and Operation Christmas Child.
Featherstone is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Featherstone of Albemarle. She was a junior marshal, president of National Honor Society, a member of Spanish National Honor Society, FCA and SADD. She earned a Catalyst Honorable Mention Award at Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics at Appalachian State University, and attended SPEC camp at Pfeiffer University for two summers. In addition to swimming, Featherstone was runner-up cross country Runner of the Year three times and was all-county, all-conference and all-region in cross country for four years. She was all-county, all-conference, all-region and all-state in track and indoor track all four years, was state champion in the 4 x 800 in track and third in the state in the 4 x 800 in indoor track. She has volunteered at a food kitchen, the YMCA, with Relay for Life and been a tutor. Featherstone worked with the elderly in her community for her service project.
Diane Rose resides in Faith, and is the daughter of Richard Rose and Jennifer Welch. She has earned three Pfeiffer University Scholarships — a Presidential Scholarship, a Stokes Scholarship and a Francis Scholarship — which total $56,000 over four years. She was in National Honor Society, the National Society of High School Scholars, SADD, Octagon Club, Optimist Club, 4-H and on the prom committee. Rose has volunteered with the Humane Society, Charlotte Mecklenburg Police, Operation Christmas Child and Habitat for Humanity. Her service project was a school beautification plan.
Victoria Sandy has earned a Pfeiffer University Prudden Scholarship and a Pfeiffer Stokes Scholarship, which are worth $28,000 over four years. Sandy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Sandy of Norwood. She has been in FCA, SADD, helped with recycling, was a student ambassador and was on the Local Government Federal Credit Union teen leadership board. Sandy played basketball and volleyball all four years, earning all-conference and all-county in volleyball. Her service project was in special education.
Meagan Thompson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Thompson Jr. of New London. She will attend Pfeiffer on a Presidential Scholarship and a Stokes Scholarship, valued at $52,000 over four years. She was in National Honor Society, president of chorus, takes professional vocal and classical piano lessons, plays piano, and sings opera, musical theatre, sacred, and art songs. She was a volunteen at Stanly Regional Medical Center, a daycare and Bible school music director and earned an excellent voice rating at the National Federation of Music Clubs. Thompson did a benefit recital concert for the Shriner’s Hospital for her service project.
