This year the North Carolina Extension & Community Association (NCECA) will offer a scholarship in the amount of $600 to a high school senior or an adult homemaker who wishes to return to school.
The deadline for the NCECA Scholarship is Feb. 1.
Note the primary criteria that will be strictly adhered to which includes: Recipient must be enrolled in a degree program (certification programs do not qualify);. recipient must be enrolled in a N.C. college 4-year, 2-year, community college, public or private; recipient who is a part-time student must carry a minimum of six (6) hours per semester and one who is full-time must carry a minimum of 12 hours per semester.
The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students in obtaining a degree at any North Carolina college, in any field of study, with priority given to Family & Consumer Sciences.
Financial need, academics, activities, honors and having some connection to the Extension & Community Association, the 4-H Program or involvement in activities of N.C. Cooperative Extension are other criteria the screening committee will consider for the NCECA Scholarship.

Also this year, the Stanly County Extension & Community Association will award a $600 Betty Watson Scholarship.
To qualify for this scholarship the applicant must be a resident of Stanly County.
The deadline for the Betty Watson Scholarship is March 31.
The Betty Watson Scholarship applicant must be a resident of Stanly County.
Priority will be given to students enrolled in Human Development & Family Studies, Child Develop-ment, Nutrition, Food Science or Ag & Extension Education at an accredited college or university.
Adults continuing their education in an accredited college program will also be considered.
Ranking criteria for applicants will include: Twenty-five (25 percent) intent to major in Human Development & Family Studies, Child Develop-ment, Nutrition, Food Science or Agriculture Extension Education; twenty-five (25 percent) scholastic achievement (GPA/class rank); twenty-five (25 percent) college aptitude (grades-enrolled) or SAT/ACT scores; twenty-five (25 percent) initiative, character and/or leadership ability.
Financial need may be considered in some cases as well and will require a confidential letter from parent/guardian stating special financial concerns.
