Jared Woodson of Boy Scout Troop 4 worked with 16 other family, friends and troop members toward attaining his Eagle Scout.
The project included clearing and marking nearly two miles of nature trails that had become overgrown in parts.
The group spent from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. July 21 chopping weeds, cutting dead trees, lining and marking the trails at Reeds Gold Mine in Midland.
Their work opened up a trail system that has been used in the past, but was difficult to traverse due to weeds and downed branches and trees.
Another Scout troop recently built a bridge for one portion of the trail system and Troop 4 was able to clear the way for future walkers and hikers to enjoy the pathways through the wooded grounds of Reed Gold Mine, including the new bridge.
Two previous Eagle awardees, along with their father, were major contributors in the construction of three benches that are now placed along the cleared trails. A fourth bench has been constructed but needs to be placed in the ground. The benches were the largest cost of the project that was nearly paid for through donations.
