Dr. James C. Williamson will address graduates and guests at Pfeiffer University’s summer commencement exercises Aug. 11 to recognize the accomplishments of students from Pfeiffer’s graduate programs and adult studies undergraduate programs based in Charlotte and Morrisville.
Two separate ceremonies will take place, 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., at Pfeiffer’s Misenheimer campus, 48380 U.S. 52 N., in Merner Gymnasium.
Williamson is chief human capital officer for Agapé Senior, a statewide network of healthcare services for senior citizens based in West Columbia, S.C., that includes home care, rehabilitation, assisted living, hospice and more.
With a career based primarily in higher education, Williamson has served as a faculty member or administrator for three universities and four community colleges in South Carolina.
His experience and creative leadership in higher education are guiding the development of Agapé University, which provides innovative education, training and professional development for the Agapé organization’s workforce, an effort that has earned national recognition.
“Dr. Williamson and Agapé represent a level of excellence to which Pfeiffer graduates aspire in their professional lives,” said Michael C. Miller, president, Pfeiffer University.
“His commitment to higher education and career development in the region are certain to inspire the 422 students receiving degrees, many of whom are already leading or preparing to lead healthcare organizations in North and South Carolina.”
Pfeiffer University’s Master’s of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program is the largest in the Carolinas; approximately 35 percent of 2012 summer graduates will receive MHA degrees or MHA degrees in combination with master’s of business administration (MBA) or leadership (MSL).
The balance of master’s degree recipients are in business administration, leadership, elementary education and special education, marriage and family therapy, and practical theology.
In addition, 84 students will receive undergraduate degrees from a variety of majors through Pfeiffer’s degree completion programs for working adults.
Williamson is co-author of a textbook for prospective college students and author of work published in Community College Review. He is a recipient of the South Carolina Governor’s Award for Two-Year College Educational Champion of the Year as well as the Citizen of the Year Award from the Williamsburg Hometown Chamber of Commerce.
With a bachelor of visual arts degree and master’s degree in education from Winthrop University, Williamson serves on that institution’s board of trustees as alumni representative and has been honored by it for professional achievement.
He earned a doctoral degree with a cognate in gerontology from the University of South Carolina. He and his wife, the former Kim Dickens, are members of Cheraw First United Methodist Church where Williamson volunteers on a number of committees and through which he participates annually at the South Carolina Laity Convocation at Lake Junaluska.
