Wednesday, March 13, 2012 —
Albemarle Middle School (AMS) recently started a student council so that students will have a voice in decisions at their school.
Students who were interested in being officers created posters and gave speeches in front of their peers.
Elections were held March 2, with votes being entered online and tallied in math classes. When the results were in, the following students were elected as AMS Student Council officers: Antonio Garcia – president; Kenya Wall – vice-president; Sunny Haque – treasurer; and Jadae Emery – secretary. Advisors are Jilinda Freeman, Jennifer Hayes and Linda Kelly.
Each month the officers will meet with the principal to discuss ideas about ways to improve the school. This week they will have their first meeting with him for lunch. In addition to improving the school, the AMS Student Council will also help out in the community, including Special Olympics in April.
