Stanly Community College (SCC) Advertising and Graphic Design student Erin Harwood has always had an appreciation for nature and the creative arts. Her artwork was recently chosen as the new logo for the Stanly County Farmers’ Market 2012 season. The Albemarle Downtown Development Corporation (ADDC) operates the Farmers’ Market in downtown Albemarle at the Historic Market Station facility.
Harwood will be graduating from the Advertising and Graphic Design program in May and then plans to continue at SCC pursuing an associate’s degree in cybercrime.
Students from the Advertising and Graphic Design program, led by Josh Gooch, provided the Farmers’ Market Advisory Board with some creative samples from which to select a new logo for the 2012 season. They wanted a design that truly represents what the Stanly County Farmers’ Market is all about.
“The ADDC and the Stanly County Farmers’ Market wish to thank Stanly Community College and Josh Gooch’s graphic design students for their time and talent in this initiative,” stated Kathy Almond, executive director of ADDC. “This creative logo represents downtown Albemarle, the historic Market Station location of the Farmers Market, and the rich heritage of agriculture in Stanly County. A special thank you and congratulations to Erin for being selected by the Farmers Market Advisory Board as the winner of the Stanly County Farmers Market logo contest.”
Farmers’ markets have become increasingly popular in North Carolina and the one in Albemarle is no exception. While supporting the local economy, this market offers customers fresh, home-grown foods, plants and much more. The ADDC works closely with the NC Cooperative Extension office to assist and advise in farm visits and appropriate vendor guidelines for the market season.
