Thursday, December 11, 2008 — With Christmas just two weeks away and 2009 just three, we’re closing out a year unlike any other for most of us.
With 559,000 Americans losing their jobs in November alone, this holiday season will be a test of courage and will power for those finding themselves dealing with the tragic loss of a job.
While most of us complain about our jobs at one time or another, the trauma of dealing without one ranks near the top of life’s most difficult circumstances.
Where the money will come from is an obvious dilemma that can overwhelm, and coupled with the separation anxiety and loss of personal fulfillment with no workplace to call home, life can spiral deep into the empty.
As we celebrate this blessed Christmas season, may we remember these days its message of brotherhood and reach out to those in need.
And when 2009 rings in in just 21 days, may we also reach out for those struggling in the new year.
Many economists are predicting an upturn in the economy by 2009’s third quarter. Hopefully, their predictions are on target and we move ahead to a better America, one that has learned from its excesses.
