A newly-formed quilting group is now getting together in the public meeting room of the Stanly County Public Library.

Uwharrie National Forest to conduct prescribed burns in January
TROY –The Uwharrie Ranger District will conduct prescribed burns beginning in January to help reduce woody debris and prevent larger, high-severity wildfires, which could threaten private homes and property.

Town Creek under the stars explores Mayan apocalypse legend Dec. 21
Mount Gilead – On Dec. 21, the Mayan long count calendar officially “runs out of time,” leading some to predict that the world will end. However, the staff plans to be here later that night, so come join us at Town Creek Indian Mound at 6 p.m. for what will be our final astronomy program for 2012 at one of the last great dark sky sites in the Piedmont.
