Stanly County is alive with Christmas festivities this weekend. Santa Claus is busy riding from one parade to another. Downtown Albemarle is bustling with activity. Little ballerinas are performing the beloved Nutcracker ballet.
Start your weekend on Wednesday with the annual Norwood Christmas Parade and Festivities. The fun starts at 5 pm.
On Thursday evening at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center, the City Youth Ballet present, “Dinner with the Stahlbaum Family.” Wine and Social begin at 5:30 pm. Gourmet dinner catered by The Boardroom will be served at 6 pm. This private showing of “The Nutcracker” is performed by The City Youth Ballet. Tickets are $75.00. Reservations are required for this adult event.
Oakboro Christmas Festivities begin at 6:30 pm on Thursday, on Oakboro’s Main Street. The parade and pre-parade activities include train and wagon rides for the children, the RBC Adult Choir, a tree lighting ceremony and pictures with Santa.
On Friday, beginning at 5:30 pm, Albemarle Downtown Development Corporation presents An Albemarle Downtown Christmas. Santa Claus is coming to town! Santa and his elves will be at the Stanly County Public Library. Children of all ages can come and visit Santa and make holiday ornaments thanks to the help of the Elves from the Partnership for Children. Local retailers and downtown restaurants will also be open for the event along with local vendors serving a variety of food and drink.
At 7 pm on Friday and Saturday and at 3 pm on Sunday, the City Youth Ballet presents The Nutcracker. The beloved Christmas ballet takes place at the Agri-Civic Center and is performed by the children of Stanly County.
On Saturday, between 10 am and 4 pm, enjoy the only Christmas candlelight tour you can take in the daytime when Reed Gold Mine presents “A Golden Christmas.” The underground mine tunnels will be decorated for the holidays and special holiday-themed tours will tell how Christmas was celebrated over the years at Reed Gold Mine. The Stamp Mill will also be open for tours, and the celebration continues in the Visitor Center with crafts, historical demonstrations, musical performances, and free refreshments. Admission is free and open to the public.
The Annual Palestine Christmas Parade will take place Sunday at 2 pm. The “People’s Parade”, as it’s locally known, will begin at the railroad tracks on Airport Road. From here, the parade will turn left onto Melton Road and proceed to Palestine Road by also turning left, and finish with another left turn on to Mountain View Church Road. Don’t miss this unique local Christmas Parade through our county’s beautiful countryside.
