The first ever Battle of the Bands was held at Dairy Queen on Hwy 52 Saturday afternoon with South Stanly gathering the most votes as the county’s favorite band.
Votes could be placed after each order, and whether it was the food and ice cream, the band, or both, South Stanly collected the trophy and $120 for the school’s band.
Albemarle and West Stanly bands also had a great showing at the event. North Stanly was invited to compete in the Battle of the Bands, but was unable to attend as they were marching in a parade out of town.
Dairy Queen manager Susan Eury said that the inaugural event seemed to have enough success that it will likely continue next year.
“We just thank everybody and all the local businesses that helped us give out door prizes,” she said.
“I think all the kids enjoyed it.”
