The 78th Stanly Regional Agricultural Fair will be held Sept. 25-29, 2012 at the Stanly County Fairgounds located on Hwy. 52 South Business. Fun rides and events, a great carnival out of Sanford, NC, will provide rides, concessions and games this year.
Stanly Rescue Services will oversee Free Parking, and any donations to the Stanly Rescue will be greatly appreciated.
Carnival ride armbands will be sold on the Midway every night for $15. Admission is $6 for ages 12 through adult, $3 for ages 5-11, and ages 4 and under are free.
Tuesday, Sept. 25th is School Night/Discount Armband Night. Students get in free with their school tickets and ride armbands will be discounted to $10 for the first two hours, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and honored all night. Gates open at 5 p.m.
The Elvis contest will begin on the Bank of Stanly Stage at 7 p.m. Elvis contestants must be at least 18 years old, and they may contact Wayne Brockwell at 704-982-8932 for details.
Wednesday, Sept. 26th is Family Drive-In at the Fair Night. Admission is $10 per car load (excluding busses and passenger vans). Gates open at 5 p.m. The Stanly Regional Agricultural Fair Beauty Contest will begin at 7 p.m. on the Bank of Stanly stage.
Thursday, Sept. 27th is Food Drive Night/Senior Citizen Night. Kids under 18 years of age who bring two cans of food will be admitted free. Food collected will be donated to the Stanly County Christian Ministries. Senior citizens age 62 or older will be admitted free. Gates will be open at 5 p.m. The Northmen Gospel Group will perform on the Bank of Stanly stage at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 a.m.
Friday, Sept. 28th is College Night/Figure 8 Night. College students who present their College ID will be admitted free. Gates open at 5 p.m. Figure 8 races will begin at the track at 7 p.m. The Shakedown Band will perform top 40 and rock music on the Bank of Stanly Stage at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 29th is Demo Derby Night. Gates open at 3 p.m. Demolition Derby begins at the track at 6 p.m. The Cinderella Pageant will begin on the Bank of Stanly stage at 3 p.m. and registration begins at 2 p.m. Proceeds from he Cinderella Pageant go to the Stanly County Hospice of the Carolinas. Groundswell Band will perform on the Bank of Stanly stage at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Among the numerous agricultural, animal, home and arts displays, there will also be business and education displays for all to learn and enjoy. The Stanly County Health Department will be on hand to administer flu shots and provide information about all their services.
The Bank of Stanly will be educating the public about on-line banking, and other internet and on site services. The Stanly County Museum will be displaying some of the history of Stanly County. The North Carolina Forestry Service will be showcasing Smokey the Bear as well as providing information about their services. The Concerned Bikers Association will be providing information and education on motorcycle safety. Recycling will be provided by Greenpiece.
As always, all carnival rides are inspected by the North Carolina Department of Labor before they are allowed to operate.
The Stanly Regional Agricultural Fair are members of the North Carolina Association of Agricultural Fairs, the International Association of Fairs and Expositions and the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce.
The officers and Board of Directors work hard to provide a safe and family friendly event, and encourage everyone to come out and have a great time at the fair.

SCC Chorus to perform free concert
Stanly Community College (SCC) Chorus will perform at 7 p.m. May 2 in Dennis Auditorium in the Kelley building on the Albemarle campus.

There will be a National Day of Prayer observance at 12 p.m. May 2 at Locust Town Center.

Red Cross launches ‘Heroes’ Campaign
The American Red Cross, Stanly County Chapter, will conduct its 10th “Heroes” Campaign with individuals who sign up to be Heroes for the American Red Cross by raising $1,000 for the local chapter.

Egg hunt at Locust Town Hall
Mission Baptist Church, Stanfield and First Baptist Church of Locust will sponsor a egg hunt at 10 a.m. March 23 at Locust Town Hall in Locust. Rain date will be March 30 at 10 a.m.
