The home for an optometrist office is currently under construction in the Centre Pointe Plaza Shopping Center in Albemarle.
According to Albemarle Planning Director Keith Wolf, a shell building, which means a building that can be altered to meet a business’ design, is under construction behind the Arby’s on NC 24-27.
The owner of the plaza is James Kirkpatrick of Greensboro. Kirkpatrick is a commercial property owner with a management office in Aberdeen, Security Management Inc.
Although the building has been approved by the city, Wolf said the city has not received any inquiries or business application permits which would show what business has an interest in the building.
“We have not been contacted by any particular business for questions or businesses to modify (the building) to meet certain specifications,” Wolf said.
“Nobody’s contacted us about meeting their specific needs.”
After reaching Kirkpatri-ck’s SMI office, Kirkpatrick said the building will be used by Dr. Samuel Thompson, an optometrist whose practice is currently located on West North Street in downtown Albemarle.
While the building is being constructed to house two separate offices, Kirkpatrick said that he has had discussions with several businesses, but is not sure who might take the other office space available.
“Don't know who that's going to be. We don't have it taken (yet), but it will be occupied the first quarter of next year,” he said.
