The groundhog didn’t see his shadow so we can look forward to an early spring. Did we get that right? Or was it the other way around? One thing we can get right is to announce that spring is on the way, and Stanly County in springtime is THE place to be. Daffodils, azaleas and dogwoods will soon be bustin’ out all over, but first we have a little more winter to endure.
To make it easier, we have a charming holiday smack in the middle of the month of February: Valentine’s Day. And to find a Valentine from the heart, hurry on down to a jewelry and accessories event in downtown Albemarle.
Falling Rivers Gallery presents From the Heart from now until February 16, 2013. The show features jewelry and accessories. The items are all one-of-a-kind and all made by local artists. The fourth year of this annual event features over 10 artists whose work ranges from silver to copper, from polymer clay to glass and from beading to wire wrapping. This year for the first time the show has branched out into accessories featuring hand-made items that include scarves, shirts and hand-painted purses.
The Gallery is also filled with permanent displays by local artists. And check their calendar for fun workshops.
Falling Rivers Art Gallery, located on West Main Street in downtown Albemarle, next door to Starnes Jewelers, is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Next weekend look for a great show by singers featuring the music of Bluegrass, Broadway and Jazz. And there’s a very special event coming up called Just for Brides.
Until then, explore the small shops tucked into old buildings on the main streets of our small communities. February 14 is just around the corner and these are the places where you’re sure to find that one-of-a-kind gift for your Valentine.
