Thursday, April 21, 2011 —
Although Saturday’s storms resulted in the cancellation of Albemarle Parks and Recreation’s Celebration of Play activities, the “Search for the Gold” continued.
Stanly County Partners in Health’s booth was up and running at City Lake Park for those looking to redeem their golden shoes for prizes.
“Even though the weather didn’t turn out as we hoped it would, we still had a pretty successful turn out,” Partners in Health Coordinator Ashley Holt said.
Of the 200 shoes scattered throughout eight parks in Stanly County, 140 were turned in Saturday.
Those who were unable to bring their shoes in on Saturday will be able to redeem their prize at the Health Department on the following days: April 25-26.
Shoes were hidden in the following parks: Rock Creek, Chuck Moorehead, City Lake Park, Norwood, Locust, Badin, Richfield and Oakboro.
Each park had at least one grand prize valued at $50 or more. The grand prizes include:
• One Nintendo Wii;
• One $50 chamber check;
• Two $50 gift certificates;
• One kayak/canoe trip for 5 at City Lake Park;
• Two $50 gift certificates at local restaurants; and
• One $100 certificate for shoes.
Stanly County Health Department is at 1000 N. 1st St., Suite 3, Albemarle.
