The Hatley’s will light the hillside at their homes near Oakboro with luminaries, scenes and Christmas lights from Dec. 22-25 on evenings that weather permits.
Luminaries will mark the driveway route each evening. Everyone is invited to share the joy of the season by driving through between 6-10 p.m.
This tradition began with the R.C. and John Hatley family in 1979 in celebration of the 40th wedding anniversary of R.C. and Altha – currently, four generations of family members and many friends help in the hillside lighting.
Visitors may arrive at the site by turning off North Main Street in Oakboro onto West Eighth Street and driving one mile to the marked entrance before the intersection of Silver and Swift roads (GPS: use 16671 Silver Road). Traffic up the hillside drive is one-way – cars may enter off Silver Road and exit onto Swift Road. Park lights or low beams provide the best effect.
For more information call (704) 485-8795.
